Ana Cavaleiro, (married, 2 daughters) was born in Figueira da Foz on the 29th January of 1944. She got a degree in Chemical Engineer at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisboa, in 1968. Other academic qualifications: Master of Science (1973, University of Liverpool, UK); PhD in Inorganic Chemistry, (1985, University of Aveiro); Agregação in Chemistry (University of Aveiro, 1999). She started her professional career in 1968 at the University of Lourenço Marques, Moçambique. Since 1975 she has developed her activity at the University of Aveiro. She is now Full Professor (since 2003). She has been at the University of Aveiro almost since the foundation of the University, being thoroughly involved in the preparation, organization and development of the Chemistry Department. She has participated in several Commissions and has held directive positions, namely President of the Department during 2 years (from 1/10/91 to 11/10/93) and Member of the Directive board for another 4 years. Now she is Course Director of the Teaching of Physics and Chemistry degree (since October 2005), member of the University Assembly (since 1999), of the Scientific Counsel Special Committee for alterations of degrees (since 2003) and of the Editorial Commission of the University of Aveiro (since 1999).
Scientific Interests
Synthesis, structural studies and applications of W, Mo and Nb polyoxometalates, including transition metal- or lanthanide-substituted polyoxometalates Polyoxometalates and new materials, namely luminescent materials Synthesis and characterization of polyoxometalate compounds with organic cations with possible applications in catalysis, electrochemistry and non-linear optics. Preparation and characterization of Mo, W and Nb complexes. Formation of inorganic solids starting from precursors in solution.
Present Research Group
She has supervised the preparation of five M. Sc. Thesis (submitted, respectivelly, in 1994, 1996, 2003, 2005 e 2006), five PhD thesis (submitted in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004 e 2005), some of them in collaboration. She is now supervising 2 PhD students and 2 research students.

Teaching Activity
Now she is giving lectures and tutorials on Inorganic Chemistry I and Industrial Inorganic Chemistry. She has before taught (lectures, tutorials and practical classes) Inorganic Chemistry II, Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Catalysis, Water Chemistry, Solution Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Chemistry I. She supervises regularly Projects and Seminars of last year students in Chemistry and Chemistry Teaching degrees.
