A.C. Bastos graduated in Chemistry by Faculdade de Ciencias do Porto in 1994, got a Master degree in Chemistry by Faculdade de Ciencias do Porto in 1999 and completed a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering by Instituto Superior Tecnico of Technical University of Lisbon in 2005.

Having completed his PhD he moved to Aveiro University to join a recently formed corrosion group that was beginning its research on nano-reservoir containing self-healing coatings.

Presently, the main activity concerns the development of microelectrodes and their use in corrosion research, the electrochemical characterization of coatings properties, the use of corrosion inhibitors in nano-containers for corrosion control and the modelling of galvanic corrosion.

- Laboratory and tutorial classes of "Corrosion and Protection of Materials".

- Co-supervision of a PhD student and final year projects.

-  Supervision of newcomers and visiting researchers on the use of standard electrochemical and microelectrode techniques.

- Seminars about corrosion in Masters in Materials and 3 days courses on corrosion for the industry.
