Andreia F Sousa holds a BSc in Industrial Chemistry and a MSc in Chemistry (2002), both from the University of Coimbra. Then, due to her interest in pursuing polymer chemistry studies and to gain expertise in biomass characterisation and valorisation from an applied standpoint, she moved to the University of Aveiro where she completed a PhD in Chemistry (2011). During these studies she had several stays abroad at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, University of Lund and Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry.

Currently, Andreia is a postdoctoral researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, where she pursues independent research in collaboration with the host, European and Chinese groups in multi-disciplinary areas. Her research interests are related to the development of new materials essentially based on 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid, but also on cork suberin products and vegetable oils, among others. In this framework Andreia is the Co-PI of 2 on-going projects (MITEXPL/ISF/0021/2017 and Stora Enso-UA) and has been involved in several on-going/past European and National projects (DeepBiorefinery, AFORE, WaChUP, among others). She has published 33 publications with multiple international affiliations; and she is the author of 1 book chapter and 8 papers in international conference proceedings. Moreover, two of her papers, dedicated to the topic of renewable products, are ‘highly cited papers’, top 1% in 2017. She has supervised 18 theses in the past 5 years (1 PhD, 5 MSc and 12 BSc students).

Furthermore, Andreia is regularly called upon to review manuscripts in high impact factor journals, such as Green Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry, along with project evaluation in polymer chemistry domain.
