Received her degree in Biological Engineer from the Universidade do Minho in 1993, and completed her Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry at Universidade de Aveiro in 1999, under supervision of Prof. João Rocha. This was followed by a post-doctoral work with Prof. Michael Anderson at Department of Chemistry, UMIST, Manchester- England (1999-2000), Prof. João Rocha at Universidade de Aveiro (2001-2003). In 2003 was starting working as solid state NMR technician, in 2006 started to work with single crystal X-ray diffraction. In 2009 was admitted as an auxiliary researcher at CICECO. Currently her researcher interests included both design, synthesis and characterisation of multinuclear copper and iron complexes with anticancer properties as well novel organic-inorganic hybrid compounds with different transition metal for magnetic applications. Crystal structure determination by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Scientific Interests

My current research interests include design, synthesis and characterisation of novel multinuclear copper and iron complexes with DNA bases (adenine, guanine and cytosine) and or polypyridyl ligands, with antitumor activity.

I have been also interested in the synthesis and characterisation of novel organic-inorganic compounds with different transition metals (Co, Cu, Fe, Mn) exhibiting fascinating magnetic properties such a quantum entanglement at high  temperatures

As part of the characterization of the synthesized materials I have extensively used the following characterisation techniques:

- Single crystal X-ray diffraction;
- Powder X-ray diffraction;
- Nuclear magnetic resonance of different nucleous
- Scanning electron microscopy;
- Thermogravimetric analysis;
- Adsorption measurements;
- Raman, Infra-red and diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies;
- Magnetic measurements;
