Andreia F Sousa received both a BSc in Industrial Chemistry and a MSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Coimbra. Afterwards, due to her interest in pursuing polymer chemistry she moved to the University of Aveiro, where she received a PhD in Chemistry in 2011. The main focus of her thesis was the polyesterification of suberin monomers, within the scope of the FP6 project WaCheUp and later in the FP7 project AFORE. Currently, she is a Post-Doc Researcher at CICECO/University of Aveiro. 

AF Sousa research interests are committed to the sustainable use of renewable resources (sugar-based monomers, suberin long chain compounds, vegetable oils) towards the development of innovative and sustainable polymeric materials. Her research activities focus aspects such diverse as synthesis and characterisation of furan- and suberin- polyesters; composite materials preparation; and also extraction, characterisation and upgrading of high value components from biomass by-products. Following her genuine interest in these subjects she is CO-PI of a FCT project and team member of several other National and European (on-going/past). She has supervised 18 theses in the past 5 years (1 PhD, 5 MSc and 12 BSc students).
