Margarida Martins trabalha atualmente no CICECO - Intituto de Materiais de Aveiro, Universidade de Aveiro. Margarida faz investigação nas áreas de biotecnologia, engenharia química e química biológica. Ela este envolvida no projeto "Otimização e aumento de escala de processos de purificação baseados em líquidos iónicos da proteína verde fluorescente produzida pela E. coli" como bolseira. Atualmente Margarida encontra-se a fazer um doutoramento em Engenharia Química entitulado de "Biorefinaria marinha: valorização de algas para obtenção produtos de valor acrescentado".
