The career award assigned by Real Sociedad Española de Química recognizes the collaboration with Spanish scientists
The Medinabeitia-Lawrence Award, awarded to Portuguese chemists by Real Sociedad Española de Química, distinguished for the second time, a scientist at the University of Aveiro (UA). In this third edition, the distinction awarded each two years to a Portuguese scientist, recognizes the scientific career of João Rocha, director of CICECO - Institute of Materials Aveiro.
The director of CICECO highlights the independence of the prestigious Spanish scientists that constitute the jury responsible for of in the assignment of Medinabeitia-Lourenço Award and the prestige of the Iberian distinction in chemistry. João Rocha has developed collaboration with scientists from various Spanish educational and research institutions in Vigo, Oviedo, Basque Country, Zaragoza, Barcelona and Valencia.
João Rocha name was proposed by José Rubén García, professor at the University of Oviedo, precisely with who began the already long set of collaborations with Spanish colleagues. The jury of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), chaired by Jesús Jiménez-Barbero, recognized the "extraordinary scientific contributions" of the Scientist and decided to give it the Medinabeitia-Lawrence Award.
This distinction is the result of a collaboration between the two of Chemistry Societies, the Portuguese and the Spanish, that the Spanish counterpart distinguishes every two years a Portuguese chemist and the Portuguese Society of Chemistry distinguishes, with the same regularity, one Spanish scientist.
