The International Network of Younger Chemists officially created in 2017, saw its constitution formalized with the definition of the statutes and bylaws, vision and mission at the first General Assembly of Delegates held in Paris in July 2019, integrated in the 47th World Chemistry Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. This international organization aims to bring together and empower young chemists worldwide in order to contribute to a globally sustainable future (more information about IYCN at https://www.iycnglobal.com).
Assistant Researcher at the Research Group COMPASS, of the Associated Laboratory CICECO - Institute of Materials of Aveiro, and associated to the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro, João Borges is the first Portuguese to assume the position of Vice-President, also known as President Elect, of the IYCN. He will assume the responsibility of chairing the IYCN, as President, in August 2021 on the occasion of the organization's second General Assembly, which takes place every two years.
João Borges has already integrated the direction of the Young Chemists' Group (GQJ) of the Portuguese Society of Chemistry (SPQ) between 2016 and 2018, was the Portuguese delegate to the European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN) in the period 2017-2019 and is currently an active member of the Networks and Global Connections teams, and led the IYCN Conference Presence team between 2019 and 2021.
