CAD CICECO welcomes new PhD students with an orientation session and lab tours

CAD CICECO welcomes new PhD students with an orientation session and lab tours
CAD CICECO hosted its Welcome Session for incoming PhD students, offering an overview of the research environment and the support structures available to early-stage researchers.

The session opened with remarks from Gil Campos, Deputy Director of the University of Aveiro’s Doctoral School, who highlighted the UA mission in fostering high-quality doctoral training. He was followed by João A. Coutinho, Director of CICECO, who presented an integrated overview of the research dynamics, organisational structure, and opportunities for doctoral involvement across scientific areas.

Representing CICECO’s CAD group, Raquel Dantas emphasised the team’s role in supporting doctoral candidates throughout their academic journey. She encouraged students to follow CAD CICECO on social media for regular updates and resources. A WhatsApp Community dedicated to PhD students was also made available during the session, providing a direct channel for information sharing and peer support.

Following the presentations, participants joined a guided tour of key CICECO facilities, including laboratories in chemistry, physics, and materials science. Researchers provided short explanations of the work carried out in each space, as well as guidance on laboratory access procedures and the resources available to support doctoral research.

The event concluded with informal social activities and a coffee break, giving newcomers the chance to connect with colleagues and begin integrating into the CICECO community.
