CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials is pleased to announce the upcoming Workshop on “(Bio)materials and Processes for Circular Economy”, which will take place at the University of Aveiro on 4–5 September 2025.
The event is jointly organized by members of CICECO – University of Aveiro and the National Institute of Chemistry (Slovenia), and will bring together researchers from Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Poland, and beyond to discuss recent advances in bio-based materials, sustainable processes, and chemical engineering solutions for the circular economy.
What began as a bilateral collaboration between Portugal and Slovenia has grown into a broader international dialogue. The workshop will feature a rich programme of plenary and keynote lectures, oral communications, and discussions on topics such as biomass valorization, sustainable (bio)materials, green processes, advanced computational tools, and innovative bioprocessing strategies.
Highlights of the programme include:
-
Plenary lecture by Prof. Santiago Aparicio Martínez (University of Burgos) on natural solvents for PFAS remediation.
-
Keynote talks from experts in areas ranging from cellulose-based materials for water remediation to artificial intelligence in sustainable materials discovery.
-
Contributions spanning experimental chemistry, materials engineering, computational modelling, and bioprocess optimization.
By promoting interdisciplinary exchange, the workshop aims to foster innovative solutions to some of today’s most pressing sustainability challenges.
