The scientific work proposed by researcher Sofia Farias Soares has been selected to be included in an international collection of articles in the field of detection and diagnostics, marking International Women's Day 2026. The initiative is promoted by the Royal Society of Chemistry, through the journal Sensors & Diagnostics, with the aim of promoting a culture of greater inclusion in science, valuing the contribution of women scientists from different backgrounds and experiences.

The publication's editorial team sought to highlight high-quality scientific work in which women researchers have played a significant role. Among the selected articles is the study co-authored by Sofia Farias Soares, developed in collaboration with scientists Ana Daniel-da-Silva and Sara Fateixa.

The article also includes the participation of master's students Nuno Silva and João Brenheiro, as well as Professor Tito Trindade. All authors are affiliated with CICECO – Institute of Materials of Aveiro and the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro. The work developed presents a new technology that can make the detection of contaminants in water simpler, faster, and more sustainable.

This international distinction represents recognition of the quality of research developed at the University of Aveiro in the area of ??materials and technologies applied to detection and diagnosis, also highlighting the fundamental role of women in the production of scientific knowledge.

The selection of the article is part of a celebration that goes beyond the symbolic date, seeking to give visibility to female talent in science and reinforce the importance of more diverse and inclusive academic and scientific environments.
