Mariana I. S. Aguiar, a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro and the University of Twente and member of CICECO, has been awarded 1st place in the Sustainability category at the RSCPoster 2026, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Her winning poster, “Greener routes to break down poly(vinyl alcohol): Lactase in polyol-based bio solvents”, addresses sustainable strategies for polymer degradation, contributing to ongoing investigação in environmentally responsible materials and chemical processes.
The RSCPoster 2026 competition, announced on 24 March 2026, recognised outstanding contributions across a wide range of fields, including Analytical, Catalysis, Energy, Materials, Nano, Organic, and Sustainability, among others. The initiative highlights emerging researchers and promotes dissemination of innovative approaches across the chemical sciences. The organisers will continue to share the winning posters from each category, encouraging engagement from the scientific community.
Mariana I. S. Aguiar carried out this work under the supervision of Dr. Andreia F. de Sousa, Prof. Frederik R. Wurm, and Dr. Ana M. Ferreira Takahashi, within CICECO, in collaboration with the Path Research Group.
The distinction reinforces the role of early-career researchers in advancing sustainability-oriented solutions within chemical engineering and materials science.
