The first edition of the NanoEnviroHealth Seminar Series took place on 20 May 2026, at the University of Aveiro, bringing together researchers and students from diverse scientific fields to explore emerging advances and challenges in materials science at the intersection of environment and human health.
The event featured four speakers presenting cutting-edge research:
- Radja Megherbi (University of Science and Technology of Oran M. Boudiaf, Algeria) addressed polymer chemistry and bio-polymer based materials;
- Jaime Cuadra (DEMAT-CICECO) presented work on 3D-printed photocatalytic filters for advanced oxidation processes in agricultural and industrial wastewater treatment;
- Beatriz Sousa (DQ-CICECO) discussed hybrid GO/MoS membranes for optical detection and removal of contaminants in food and water; and
- Ana Teresa Reis (INSA, Porto) addressed current challenges and gaps in nanotoxicology assessment.
The session closed with a round table "From Materials to Impact: Bridging Environment and Health" moderated by Tito Trindade (DQ-CICECO).
"Initiatives like NanoEnviroHealth are essential to create meaningful dialogue between different scientific fields and to encourage collaborative approaches to today's environmental and health challenges. Beyond the scientific knowledge shared, these events are also valuable opportunities for learning from different perspectives, building connections, and inspiring future collaborations", reflects Cláudia Batista Lopes, chair of NanoEnviroHealth Seminars
The NanoEnviroHealth Seminar Series is supported by the project MIXING-TOX (2022.03491.PTDC), funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
