Twenty-seven researchers from CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials have been included in the 2026 edition of the World’s Best Scientists ranking, published by Research.com, a bibliometric platform that evaluates scientific performance worldwide.
Of the 102 researchers from the University of Aveiro distinguished by Research.com, 27 belong to CICECO. At the national level, the ranking included 846 scientists affiliated with Portuguese institutions.
The ranking identifies leading researchers in their scientific fields based on the impact and relevance of their scholarly outputs. The selection is based on the Discipline H-index (D-index), a metric that considers publications and citations within a specific disciplinary area. The data are derived from the open bibliometric databases OpenAlex and Crossref.
The outstanding performance of CICECO researchers is further demonstrated by the fact that they account for 7 of the 10 highest-ranked researchers at the University of Aveiro, with 6 placed among the national Top 10 and 2 among the world’s Top 500 researchers in their respective fields.
These results reflect the excellence and international impact of the research carried out at CICECO. This contribution is particularly significant in the fields of Materials Science and Chemistry, where the University of Aveiro ranks 1st and 2nd nationally, and 151st and 91st worldwide, respectively. It also highlights the role of the Associate Laboratory as one of Portugal’s leading research centres in Materials Science and Engineering and related scientific fields.
