Joint ceremony marks the 25th anniversary of CESAM and CICECO in November

CESAM – Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies and CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials will celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2026. To mark this milestone, the two research units of the University of Aveiro, both with the status of Associated Laboratory, are organizing a joint commemorative session to be held on November 11th at the Caixa Multipurpose Hall.

CESAM has consolidated its work in scientific research on marine, coastal and terrestrial environments, focusing its work on critical issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability. In parallel, CICECO is a reference in materials science, focusing its activity on the synthesis, processing and characterization of new functional materials with high potential for technological application and industrial impact.

The organization of this joint event, which will begin at 10:00 am, reflects a deliberate strategy of institutional cooperation. The complementarity between these two areas of knowledge aims to foster discussion about contemporary scientific challenges, highlighting the relevance of interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex problems. The program, which will take place during the morning and afternoon, will include a lunch gathering, intended to bring together members and collaborators who have followed the trajectory of both units.
