Next2Heat advances sustainable heating through Bosch–CICECO partnership

The collaboration between CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials and Bosch enters a new phase with the launch of the Next2Heat project, an initiative that succeeds the ILLIANCE Agenda and reinforces a long-term partnership dedicated to developing solutions for the energy transition and the decarbonization of buildings.

The new project was presented during a visit by Olivier Cois, Global Head of Engineering at Bosch Thermotechnology, to the University of Aveiro. The visit included CICECO's laboratories, where the Institute's scientific expertise and research infrastructure supporting the collaboration with Bosch were showcased.

Recently approved under Portugal 2030, Next2Heat will begin on 1 September 2026, with a duration of three and a half years and a funded investment of €18.3 million. The project brings together Bosch Thermotechnology, the University of Aveiro, Isolago, Compo-Star and Petibol to develop a new generation of more efficient, sustainable and safer technologies for water heating and climate control.

Its objectives include the development of high-performance electric heat pumps, next-generation gas heating technologies and bioplastic-based solutions for components and packaging, contributing to lower environmental impact and improved energy efficiency.

The remaining issues to be considered in this matter will be handled by the University of Aveiro in accordance with the regime established by the GDPR.
