The kick-off meeting of ReCover – Industrial Symbioses in the Development of Ceramic Floor and Wall Tiles took place at Aleluia Ceramics, bringing together industry and research partners around the development of more sustainable ceramic products.
Running until 2029, the project aims to develop a new range of sustainable ceramic floor and wall tiles based on circular economy principles, with a focus on reducing waste and minimising the use of virgin raw materials.
ReCover will explore the development of new ceramic formulations incorporating waste generated throughout different stages of ceramic processing, while also investigating the potential to valorise waste streams from other industrial sectors. Where possible, the project will prioritise geographically close sources, contributing to more local and efficient industrial symbioses.
The consortium is led by Aleluia Ceramics and brings together the CTCV – Technological Centre for Ceramics and Glass and the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering (DEMaC) at the University of Aveiro. The University of Aveiro team is part of CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, whose research expertise in materials development, ceramic processing and circular approaches to materials supports the project's scientific and technological objectives.
ReCover is supported by SIID – Business R&D – Co-promotion Operations, through the CENTRO 2030 Programme, Portugal 2030 and the European Union.
