objectivos gerais

To design, prepare, process and characterize novel inorganic and organic-inorganic multifunctional materials and nanostructures of different (0-3D) dimensionality, for information and communications technologies (optical, magnetic properties), photovoltaics, catalysis, biological and environmental applications. Following selected systems are being studied or will be investigated in the future.

- Luminescent thermometers and heater-thermometer nanoplatforms: luminescence thermometry unveils properties of thermometers and their surroundings
- Visible to NIR luminescent solar concentrators with planar and (meter scale) cylindrical geometries
- Aggregation-induced emission materials and organic dyes: cellular labelling and in vivo imaging

- Zeolites: NMR studies of acid catalyst for ethylbenzene conversion
- Metal (Ti) Organic Frameworks (MOF) photocatalysts; Zr-, Al-, Cr-MOF: liquid-phase catalysis for hydrolysis of phosphoester bonds, olefins epoxidation, and oxidative desulfurization of diesel fuel
- Mo oxide/organonitrogen hybrid materials: catalysts in oxidation reactions
- Cucurbiturils: catalysts for alcoholysis of epoxides, in mild conditions, giving beta-alkoxy alcohols

- Nanosorbents for magnetic separation assisted water treatment
- Selective enrichment of proteins by functionalized nanoparticle’s magnetic separation
- Microporous Ti and Ln silicates: Cd, Hg, Pb and Cs exchange
- CO2 capture: study of molecular species formed at the surface of amine-functionalized mesoporous silicas

- Microporous zeolitic silicates as drug delivery agents; example: Zr silicate for treating hyperkalaemia
- Characterization of organic pharmaceutical solids
- Ca phosphonate MOF for treating bone tissue disorders

- Novel ordered C70 polymer phases and geometrical frustration in fcc C60 polymer
- Transparent conductive graphene textile fibers
