Guilherme Pereira

Research Fellowship

Guilherme Pereira completed his Integrated Master’s degree in Engineering Physics at the University of Aveiro in 2025, achieving a final classification of 16. Throughout his academic journey, he has demonstrated a strong interest in areas including optics, signal analysis, instrumentation, sensor development, prototype design, and optoelectronic systems.
For his bachelor’s final project, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sofia Latas at i3N, Guilherme computationally studied signal transmission and coupling effects between neurons using the FitzHugh–Nagumo model. This project provided him with foundational skills in computational simulation, signal analysis, and the study of chaotic systems, earning a final grade of 18.
During his master’s degree, Guilherme participated in a research fellowship at CESAM/CICECO within the framework of “Development of new microalgae diets for the valorisation of bivalves throughout the value chain”, where he gained experience in optical fibre sensing, signal analysis, and prototype development, contributing to the creation of a novel sensing mechanism.
For his master’s dissertation, supervised by Prof. Dr. Carlos Marques at CICECO, Guilherme developed an innovative prototype capable of real-time detection of large microparticles in the atmosphere when integrated with UAVs. This work enabled him to consolidate skills in prototype development, optoelectronics, acoustic emission, signal processing, statistical analysis, and machine learning. His dissertation, which bridged theory and practice and applied fundamental concepts of engineering physics, received a final grade of 18.
