Decaaquadioxobis[mu(3)-N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetato] dimanganesedivanadium dihydrate

abstract

The crystal structure of the title compound, [Mn2V2(C5H6NO7P) O-2(2)(H2O)(10)] center dot 2H(2)O, contains a centrosymmetric dimeric [V2O2(pmida)(2)](4-) unit [ where H(4)pmida is N-(phosphonomethyl) iminodiacetic acid] connecting two neighbouring Mn2+ cations through the phosphonate groups. The crystal structure is characterized by the presence of an extensive network of strong and highly directional O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, involving the water molecules ( coordinated and uncoordinated) and the functional groups of pmida(4-).
