Pioneering Cu(II)-flavonoid coordination polymers with anticancer activity

resumo

Herein, we report the synthesis and structural characterization of the first Cu(II)-flavonoid two-dimensional coordination polymer, [Cu(chry)(phen)]& sdot;H(2)chry & sdot;0.75H(2)O. Among three synthetic approaches - microwave-assisted, solvothermal, and conventional reflux - the microwave method proved most efficient, yielding the compound in 5 min at 100 degrees C with 82 % yield. In vitro studies demonstrated strong anticancer activity against Caco-2 cells, with similar to 98 % and similar to 71 % reductions in cell viability at 10 mu M, as determined by SRB and MTT assays, respectively, significantly surpassing the activity of the free ligands. The compound also caused substantial membrane damage (LDH release) and fully inhibited cell proliferation (IC50 = 1.83 mu M, [H-3]-thymidine assay), confirming its high anticancer potential.
