João A. P. Coutinho é Professor Catedrátco no Departamento de Química da Universidade de Aveiro e diretor do CICECO desde 1 de Janeiro de 2022. É coordenador de um grupo de investigação multidisciplinar que se foca no desenvolvimento de solventes verdes e novos processos de separação para a biorrefinaria e a economia circular. Atualmente esforça-se para aplicar solventes de origem biológica, solventes eutéticos e líquidos iónicos nestes processos e tenta obter uma melhor compreensão do seu comportamento fisico-químico. Orientou mais de 50 teses de mestrado, 35 de doutoramento, 25 estagiários de pós doutoramento. É autor de mais de 600 artigos (h-factor 81, > 25000 citações) e 12 patentes.
