Anabela Tavares Aguiar Valente

Principal Researcher

Short CV

Her education background includes a 5-year degree in Chemical Engineering at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal), and a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering-Catalysis from the same university (supervisor: Prof. Joaquim Vital). Afterwards she carried out post-doctoral work in Materials Science and Engineering, at the University of Aveiro (UA, Department of Chemistry, Portugal; supervised by Prof. João Rocha). In 2002, she became equated to Assistant Investigator at the UA, Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO), and since 2015 she is Principal Investigator. She develops applied scientific research work in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. She has supervised MSc, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows, and has been involved in research projects as team member or coordinator. She is (co-)author of ca.200 SCI papers, 230 communications in (inter)national scientific meetings, patent, book chapters. She was elected twice as member of the Scientific Council of the UA, and is presently co-director of the Department of Chemistry, UA. She is board member (for Portugal) of the Federation of European Zeolite Associations, FEZA since 2020. Elected as Chemistry Europe Fellow (Fellows Class 2020/2021).

Main scientific interests: oxidation catalysis, acid-base catalysis, catalytic routes for the chemical valorisation of biomass, synthesis and characterisation of materials.
