Eduarda S. Morais is a PhD student at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Material in the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She is currently working under the supervision of Professor Armando J. D. Silvestre, Dr Carmen S. R. Freire and Dr Mara G. Freire. Her thesis is on the topic of polysaccharide extraction from different biomass sources using deep eutectic solvents (DES) and their transformation into building blocks and new innovative materials.
She received both BSc (2014) and MSc (2016) degrees in Biotechnology and Industrial Biotechnology respectively from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. In 2017, she worked as a researcher in the project DEEPBIOREFINERY (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016549 and PTDC/AGRTEC/1191/2014) also at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials.
Her main research focus are green solvents (e.g. ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents), their synthesis/preparation, characterization and their use for biomass valorisation by extracting added value compounds integrated in a biorefinery process. She also has interest in the area of biomaterials development and characterization. She is the co-author of seven peer-reviewed papers published in journals such as Green Chemistry, ChemSusChem and ACS Sustainable Chemistry and has sixteen communications in both national and international conferences.
