Short CV

Dinis O. Abranches was born in 1997, in Aveiro, Portugal. He is a research grantee at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro. Since very young has been interested in science and started an adventure in amateur chemistry that lasts until the present day.

He obtained his BSc (2018) and MSc (2020) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, finishing both programs with a grade of 19/20 (ECTS A), and winning several prizes for outstanding academic achievement. He defended the thesis entitled “Unveiling the Mechanism of Hydrotropy: Towards a Sustainable Future”, which earned a final grade of 20/20. Part of the work developed was highlighted in Nature Reviews Chemistry (10.1038/s41570-020-0202-3).

He is interested in thermodynamics, computational chemistry, and green chemistry,  namely in the fields of Deep Eutectic Solvents and Hydrotropy. He has extensive experience in the usage of the thermodynamics model COSMO-RS and the quantum chemistry-based program TURBOMOLE, and enjoys employing these tools to model and predict phase equilibria, and to interpret intermolecular (non-covalent) interactions. Besides, possesses an advanced skill set on the MATLAB programming language.
