The Portuguese Society of Electrochemistry (SPE) attributed to Aleksey Yaremchenko the Young Investigator in Electrochemistry of 2012 Award. The distinction given to the researcher of the Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composites (CICECO), University of Aveiro (UA), for the contribution of his work in the development of the Electrochemistry field, will be delivered during the XVIII Meeting of SPE, which will be held in March 2013 in Porto. The award, established in 2010, aims to stimulate activity in the country of scientific research in the area of Electrochemistry.
A team of researchers from the Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO), University of Aveiro, is developing for the aviation industry a smart coating that when applied to the fuselage of the aircraft, repairs, as if it would be skin, small discontinuities resulting from mechanical and environmental impacts suffered by appliances during flight.
A study of The Department of Chemistry/CICECO researchers, in collaboration with a researcher from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), was highlighted in the front cover of the November issue of Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics.
A work of researchers from the Research Center of Organic Chemistry Natural and Agrifood Products (QOPNA), University of Aveiro, in conjunction with researchers from the Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO), also from UA, and even Universities of Humboldt (Germany) and Sultan Moulay Slimane (Morocco), deserved the highlight in the cover of Tetrahedron.
The cosmetics, chocolate, bread, stained glass or fireworks are products that result from spectacular demonstrations of chemistry in everyday life for all of us. The chemistry that lurks behind all these reactions will be explained further in the second season of the TV series «A Química das Coisas», starting October 1, the official homepage, Facebook, Youtube and other web repositories, at the rate of two per week. The initiative has the support of CICECO and the backing of the Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro (DQ), Science Office and production of Duvideo and presentation of Claudia Semedo.
The scientific Ibero-American NMR spectroscopists community meets at the University of Aveiro, between 25 and 28 September to discuss and present the latest advances in the field. The meeting, organized in the style three in one, also adds two other events related to the same theme, one spurred by Specialist Group of Magnetic Resonance (GERM) of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, with its biennial meeting (meeting VI), and another with the Iberian Group of NMR (III meeting).
