sinopse do CV

André M. da Costa Lopes received both B.Sc. (2010) and M.Sc. (2012) degrees in Biotechnology from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. In 2012 and 2013, he started to work at LNEG through 2 consecutive research fellowships in the frame of the international PROETHANOL2G project and the national BIOFFA project. He holds a PhD degree in Sustainable Chemistry since December 2017 and his thesis was focused on the valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass with ionic liquids. During this period, he also had the opportunity to participate in two different COST Actions (CM0903 and TD1203) to promote his research and to establish new collaborations. In February 2018, he was a postdoctoral researcher at CICECO in the frame of BBI JU project PROVIDES. He conducted novel research and contributed with new data regarding to the mechanisms behind biomass delignification with deep eutectic solvents towards an efficient cellulose pulp production.

He is a researcher at CECOLAB since February 2020 in forest and fine chemistry department and he is an official collaborator at CICECO. Nowadays, he is developing green and sustainable paths for biomass valorisation using alternative solvents in the frame of bioeconomy and circular economy concepts. Currently, he is PI of a bilateral project in collaboration with Karine Vigier from CNRS institute at University of Poitiers in the frame of the Program Hubert Curien (PHC) for 2019/2020 aiming at biomass valorisation with green solvents towards biosurfactants and bioplasticizers. He is a research member of BIOVINO, an INTERREG V-A Spain/Portugal call involving a consortium of Portuguese/Spanish universities and research institutes for vineyard residue valorisation. Furthermore, he is participating in COST Action CA17128 focused on the research of lignin valorisation with green chemistry methods.

He is co-author of 27 peer-review papers published in leading international journals, in which one of his publications (Green Chem, 2017, 19, 4200-4233) was highlighted in annual collection Green Chemistry Hot Articles (2017). His work has been highly cited (>1600) with h-index = 15 (Scopus database). He is also the co-author of 4 book chapters, and he is an inventor of 3 Portuguese patents (PT106743-B, PT106947-B, PT108402-B). His experience and results have been disseminated as oral presentations in international and prestigious conferences, such as EUBCE (2016), ISGC (2017-2019), EWLP (2018),EuGSC (2021), among others, and he is attended several meetings supported by COST actions (CM0903, TD1203 and CA17128). He has been establishing collaborations and networks with recognised researchers, such as professor Paul Anastas (Green Chem., 2017, 19, 4200-4233), and he participated in different scientific missions for research and expertise exchange (Estonia and Brazil). He was and has been supervisor and co-supervisor of 2 MSc and 4 PhD students, as well as supervisor in short-term missions of 2 Post-Doc researchers and 1 PhD student.
