Scientific Interests

The investigation of the relation between geometric and electronic structure of nanostructured materials. Methods: - Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) - High resolution TEM (HRTEM) - Image simulation - Electron diffraction - Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) - Electron energy loss spectrometry (EELS) - Band structure calculations (DFT) I use transmission electron microscopy and related techniques on the experimental side and combine them with theoretical calculations of the band structure based on density functional theory. The combination of these methods provides a unique tool for the study of the relation between the geometrical arrangement of structural units and the resulting electronic structure and properties of a material.
