Biography

João Vasco Almeida Silva Valente graduated in Biotechnology by the University of Beira Interior in 2017 and completed his Master's in March 2020 at the same institution. He worked at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials during his master thesis and from October 2020 to February 2021 as a service provider, working with ionic liquids as platforms for the extraction and purification of biomolecules. From April to October of 2021, he started a research grant at CICS-UBI addressing the development of disrupting and technological based pharmaceutical products through plant extracts. Presently, he is working as a technician fellowship under the scope of antYmicrob: Avian antibodies with high purity and stability as alternative biopharmaceuticals to tackle antimicrobial resistance (PdC-PO Centro 2020 (ref.181219). João is the author of one book chapter with an emphasis on anticancer drugs in the environment, an article in a Portuguese journal about the toxicity of microplastics on three different cell lines, and four conference posters addressing the evaluation of in vitro cytotoxicity of microplastics and essential oils. The main areas of interest are the development of alternative and sustainable platforms using ionic liquids and aqueous biphasic systems for the extraction and purification of biomolecules, and the evaluation of in vitro cytotoxicity chemicals and formulations.
