Vinícius de Paula

Estudante de doutoramento

Short CV

Vinícius de Paula is dedicated to the field of Chemical Engineering, with a strong interest for green chemistry and polymer materials. He completed his Integrated Master’s in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro in 2023, with a thesis entitled “Recycling of polymers: a case study on poly(ethylene terephthalate) and poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate)”. This research led to a publication in a high-impact journal (impact factor >7) and several scientific communications, including presentations at the prestigious Gordon Research Conferences and Seminars (GRC and GRS). Throughout his academic journey, Vinícius has deepened his interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and began his international research engagement through the COST Action CA18220 (FUR4Sustain).

He is currently a PhD student at the University of Aveiro, in the framework of the Horizon Europe project “ABSolEU” (HORIZON-CL4-2021-RESILIENCE-01, No. 101058636), focused on the physical recycling of ABS, and a visiting PhD candidate at the Institut de Chimie de Nice (University of Côte d’Azur).

With a multidisciplinary profile in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science, he has hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and characterization, MATLAB programming, and computational techniques applied to materials research. These skills were honed throughout his academic journey, which included volunteer research at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials in collaboration with Caima S.A. – Cellulose Industry), focusing on Lignocellulosic Materials. His work has also extended into Biomedicine, as evidenced by his selection to the 4th edition of the Maria de Sousa Summer Research Program scholarship (All Time GABBAs and the American Portuguese Biomedical Research Fund) –demonstrating his versatility and adaptability across scientific domains.

He has published two peer-reviewed articles, delivered seven oral communications, presented twelve posters, and co-authored twelve works presented at national and international conferences. His commitment to scientific dissemination and community engagement is further reflected in his role as co-organizer of six scientific events, including serving as president of the IX National Meeting of Chemical Engineering Students. Beyond research, he is a committed advocate for diversity and inclusion in academia and has a strong appreciation for the arts, holding formal certification in classical music theory, with a particular interest in education.
