Impact of tin substitution on the structural, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of Ba0.98Ca0.02TiO3 ceramics

resumo

For the first time, effect of fin (Sn) substitution on the structural, ferroelectric, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of lead-free Ba0.98Ca0.02Ti1-xSnO3 (BCST) compounds with 'x' = 0-0.05 mol % was investigated systematically. Room temperature x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the tetragonal phase in the composition range 0 <= x <= 0.03 and co-existence of tetragonal and orthorhombic phases for 'x' = 0.05 composition. The experimental density varied between 95 and 97% of the theoretical density. The Curie temperature (T-C) exhibited a declining trend from 125 degrees C to 102 degrees C with increasing Sn content. The orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition (TO-T) was observed close to 39 degrees C for Sn doped compound with 'x' = 0.05. Further, the best electrical properties (2P(r) similar to 16.6 mu C/cm(2), epsilon(m) similar to 9063 and d(33) similar to 290 pC/N) were observed for BCST compound doped with 'x' = 0.03 proving it an optimal composition among the studied ceramics.
