Smart coating based on double stimuli-responsive microcapsules containing linseed oil and benzotriazole for active corrosion protection

resumo

Microcapsules containing linseed oil were synthesized by in situ polymerization method and benzotriazole was entrapped between polyelectrolytes layers assembled outside the microcapsules, using the Layer-by-Layer technique. The prepared microcapsules presented mean number diameter of 2.08 pm and released greater amount of benzotriazole in slightly acidic NaCI solution. The corrosion protection effect of the microcapsules was evaluated using a carbon steel substrate coated with an epoxy resin loaded with the microcapsules (4.8 wt %). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy demonstrated the best performance of the loaded coating when compared to a control due to the stimuli-responsive release of linseed oil and benzotriazole.
