Nucleic Acids Stabilization with Ionic Liquids and Deep Eutectic Solvents

resumo

The use of alternative solvents such as ionic liquids (ILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DES) in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, and biomedical applications has been increasing with remarkable improvements. Particularly, they present high relevance for biomolecules processing since their solubility, structure stability and biological activity can be significantly enhanced. In this context, this chapter presents an overview on the use of ILs and DES as alternative solvents for the stabilization of nucleic acids given their relevance in research and biopharmaceuticals development. The most relevant IL-and DES-based formulations reported for nucleic acids are herein described, and the main molecular mechanisms and interactions underneath the increased stability promoted by these formulations are unveiled, while their key advantages for biotechnology and biomedical fields are highlighted. In this chapter, readers from academies, research institutes and industries will gain useful information and deep knowledge on the designing of novel solvents for the processing of nucleic acids. © 2023 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
