Paula Sofia Sarrico Lacerda

Researcher

Short CV

Paula S. S. Lacerda graduated in Chemistry – branch of Food Chemistry from the University of Aveiro (Portugal) in 1995. Received her MSc in Natural Products and Food Stuff in 1998 and her PhD in Chemistry - Organic Chemistry in 2007, both from the University of Aveiro. The PhD thesis was entitled “Synthesis of new tetrapyrrolic macrocycles”. After a period in industry, in 2011 she returned to the University of Aveiro as a Scientific Researcher to develop functional nanostructured materials using polymerization techniques and the encapsulation of anisotropic inorganic particles.

In 2014, in the Fluminence Federal University in Brazil, she studied the synthesis of dimers porphyrin - isatin (biologically active molecules) using several synthetic approaches. Back to University of Aveiro she focussed on the synthesis and functionalization of corroles and porphyrins and their conjugation with quantum dots towards their application as photosensitizers and as nanosensors.

More recently her interests are also centered on the development of sustainable materials involving polymers of renewable origin within a circular economy mind-set.
