Welcome
We are very pleased to welcome you to REFLEX2026, an international workshop dedicated to responsive and electroactive polymer systems for next-generation flexible electronics.
REFLEX2026 was conceived as a forum to bring together researchers from across Europe working at the interface of polymer science, materials engineering, physics, and electronics. Our goal is not only to share recent scientific advances, but also to initiate a vibrant, interdisciplinary community around responsive polymer systems and to lay the foundations for a future European research network.
We particularly encourage the active participation of early-stage researchers, and we aim to create an open, inclusive atmosphere that fosters discussion, exchange of ideas, and the emergence of new collaborations. We hope REFLEX2026 will serve as a starting point for long-term interactions and joint initiatives in this rapidly evolving field.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Aveiro in April 9-10, 2026 for two inspiring days of science and networking.

Conference Chairpersons
Main Areas

Advancing materials innovation through the tailored design of polymer backbones, side chains, and nanocomposites to achieve enhanced electromechanical (piezoelectric, triboelectric, magnetoelectric) and optical (photoresponsive, mechanochromic) functionalities for flexible electronic applications.

Leveraging AI and data-driven methodologies to reveal hidden correlations between polymer structure, processing, and functionality, accelerating materials discovery and the transition from fundamental research to application.

Exploring advanced characterization techniques for flexible and responsive polymer systems, with emphasis on electromechanical, optical, and functional performance under mechanical deformation, cyclic loading, and operational conditions relevant to real-world devices.

Promoting sustainable fabrication approaches, including bio-based polymers, recyclable and reprocessable composites, and environmentally conscious processing routes aligned with circular economy principles for next-generation flexible electronics.

Practical Information
Traveling to Aveiro
By Public Transportation from the Airports
Porto Airport is usually the most convenient airport.
From Porto Airport (Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro – OPO):
You can take a taxi directly to Aveiro (about €50–€65, ~55 min by road) or use public transport. Take the Metro (Line E – Purple) from the airport to Porto Campanhã (metro tickets start around €2-€3, verify zones and prices before travel) and then a train to Aveiro from Porto Campanhã. Trains between Porto and Aveiro run frequently and take roughly 40 min to 1 h 15 min, depending on the service (Urbano/Regional vs Intercidades/Alfa); prices vary depending on train type and booking time (rail info www.cp.pt).
Alternatively, there are direct buses from Porto Airport to Aveiro (~1 h 20 min to 1 h 30 min), with occasional services offered by carriers like FlixBus (https://shop.flixbus.pt) and Rede Expressos (https://rede-expressos.pt/en/timetables); ticket prices vary by operator and booking time.
From Lisbon Airport (Aeroporto Humberto Delgado – LIS):
From Lisbon Airport, take a taxi to Lisboa Oriente train station or use the Metro (Red Line) plus a short walk to Lisboa Oriente train station. From Oriente there are frequent Intercidades and Alfa Pendular trains to Aveiro; journey times typically range from about 2 h to 2 h 30 min, and prices depend on train type and booking moment. Buses are also available from Lisboa Oriente bus station or directly from the Lisbon Airport to Aveiro's bus station.
By Car from the Airports
Traveling by car from Porto to Aveiro takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour, using either the A1 or the A29 highways. From Lisbon, the journey takes approximately 2 hours via the A1 motorway. Alternatively, and often more conveniently, you may take the A8 and A17 highways.
