OVERVIEW
The CICECO Young Scientist Program offers University of Aveiro (UA) students the opportunity to engage in real scientific research on a voluntary basis, within CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials. By working alongside CICECO professors and researchers, students gain hands-on laboratory experience, develop scientific and technical skills, and explore potential career paths in research.
Upon completing the program, each participant receives a CICECO Young Scientist Certificate in recognition of their involvement.
Projects are proposed by CICECO faculty and researchers and made available on an open-access platform, covering topics aligned with CICECO's four research lines — Information and Communication Technology, Energy and Industrial Applications, Sustainability, and Health — and six research groups spanning areas from nanomaterials and biomedical materials to computer simulation and biorefineries.
Any UA student enrolled in a bachelor's degree or in the first year of a master's degree is eligible to participate. Once a student selects a project and agrees on the terms with the proposing researcher, the project begins — with guidance and laboratory support fully assured by the research team. Safety and operating rules are the student's responsibility to follow throughout.
This series showcases the real experiences of students who have taken part in the program, offering a genuine look at what it means to do science at CICECO.
