Assistant Researcher

Short CV

José Carlos Almeida is an Assistant Researcher at the University of Aveiro with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (2016). His research focuses on organic–inorganic hybrid materials, sol–gel processing, electrospun nanofibers, and advanced ceramic and glass systems for biomedical and functional applications. He has extensive experience bridging fundamental materials science with industrial innovation, particularly in the ceramics and glass sector. He has participated in multiple nationally and internationally funded R&D projects, including FCT-funded research and industrial co-promotion programs with leading ceramic and glass companies. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and presented invited and contributed talks at major international conferences in ceramics, biomaterials, and hybrid materials. Dr. Almeida has a strong record of academic supervision, currently supervising PhD and MSc students in materials engineering, biomaterials, and nanomedicine, and has served on multiple academic juries in Portugal and abroad. He has contributed regularly to teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Aveiro in materials technology and engineering. He is President of the Portuguese Society of Ceramics and Glass (SPCV) and has held leadership roles within the European Ceramic Society, including Chair of the R&D Working Group. He has organized international scientific conferences, seminars, and industry outreach events, promoting knowledge transfer between academia and the ceramics industry. In addition to research and teaching, he is active in scientific dissemination, editorial work, and peer review for international journals. He co-edited a technical book on advanced ceramics and has contributed to special issues in polymer and hybrid materials.
