The laboratory provides magnetic properties studies of a very broad range of materials, solids, powders, nanoparticles and thin films. For magnetometry, a state-of-the art Quantum Design MPMS3 SQUID-VSM Magnetometer is available. It allows studies in the temperature range from 1.8K up to 400K and magnetic fields up to 7 Tesla, with noise level below 10-8 emu. Typical studies include hysteresis cycles, saturation magnetization, coercivity field, magnetic relaxation and blocking temperature for superparamagnetic nanoparticles, as well as phase transition studies and magnetocaloric effects.
Electrical measurements for magnetoresistance are provided with a closed cycle refrigerator (10K-450K), and variable magnetic field (Hallbach magnet; 0-1 Tesla, and 360º in sample plane rotation). Current source and nanovoltmeters enable 1 ppm resolution.
