Aims and Scope

Corrosion and Materials Degradation (ISSN 2624-5558) an age-old and vexing problem continues to attract research attention, not only because it continues to cost our society very dearly but also for its bearings on application of new and critical technologies. For example, whether it is use of magnesium alloys as novel biodegradable temporary implants, or material for nuclear waste containers, desalination plants or durable electronic devices, corrosion often stands out as a non-trivial challenge.  It is true that circumventing corrosion in such critical applications is technologically challenging, socially fulfilling as well as commercially attractive, but it is equally true that a durable solution calls for a disruptive approach.

The proposed journal has the core objective of providing a new platform for dissemination of disruptive and novel approaches to corrosion mitigation for commercially attractive exploitation, whereas promoting also the cutting-edge advancements of the traditional approaches of the discipline.

K. Yasakau graduated in Chemistry from the Belarusian State University, Minsk, Belarus, in 2003, he obtained a Master degree in Chemistry/Physical chemistry in 2004 from the same university. In 2011 he received his PhD degree in Material Science from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. After obtaining his PhD he coordinated study and development of functional sol-gel coatings in two national QREN projects, namely NATAL and OSMOSE, at the University of Aveiro. By 2019 Dr. Yasakau has participated in 8 European projects as an investigator. He was responsible for technical activities of the University of Aveiro partner in European projects RFSR-CT-2011-00019 (DURADH), H2020-MSCA-RISE-2014. At the present time he is local principal investigator in a partner organization, University of Aveiro, of an international RISE project (FUNCOAT) H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018.

K. Yasakau is a co-author of 39 (SCI) (13 as a first author) publications in international peer review journals including those with high impact factor, 7 book chapters, 2 patents and 6 conference proceedings. The publications have more than 3500 citations with h-index 23 which demonstrates high scientific productivity and recognition in the field. In addition he has made more than 16 oral and 7 poster communications at different international congresses, 2 short courses at international workshops. He is an active reviewer of Appl. Surf. Sci., Surf. Coat. Technol., Corrosion Sci. Journals and has been involved in review of proposals for the Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS). He supervised a Licentiate student, a Master work and currently is supervising a PhD student.

Presently K. Yasakau is a Researcher at the University of Aveiro. His scientific interests include: study of localized corrosion mechanisms of adhesively bonded galvanized steel; development of nanostructured sol-gel coatings and self-healing coatings for active corrosion protection of metals; sol-gel synthesis; corrosion protection and corrosion inhibition of Al, Fe-based, Mg alloys and pure metals; application of SPM microscopy for studying localized corrosion activity of metals and properties of oxide films on metallic alloys; preparation and characterization of anodic and conversion films on metals and alloys.
