Chemical composition of Artemisia campestris and Hibiscus cannabinus

abstract

Studies on the chemical composition of Artemisia campestris and Hibiscus cannabinus (kenaf) have been performed. Analyses of the essential oil of A. campestris and of the light petroleum extract of bark and core of kenaf were done by GC-MS. The phenolic components of the acetone extracts of both plants were isolated by thin-layer chromatography and their structures established by spectroscopic methods. Several new natural compounds have been identified. The extensive structural elucidation of all compounds allowed the correction of some previously reported (13)C NMR data.
