Mariela Nolasco Joins Prestigious ISIS Molecular Spectroscopy Panel

Mariela Nolasco, researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aveiro, has been selected to join the FAP5 panel on Molecular Spectroscopy at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in the UK. This panel focuses on spectroscopy in chemical, materials science, and bioscience systems, including catalysis.

FAP5 is one of ten expert panels responsible for evaluating proposals for beamtime access at ISIS, reviewing between 1,500 and 2,000 submissions annually. Composed of experienced scientists in neutron and muon techniques, these panels recommend research projects to the ISIS Director. Members are appointed for six meetings (approximately three years), and their selection follows a transparent process that promotes diversity and aligns with STFC's peer-review standards.

Nolasco will serve alongside internationally recognized experts in the field, bringing her expertise to a panel that plays a critical role in shaping the scientific program at one of the world’s leading neutron and muon research facilities.

In a related initiative, Nolasco recently co-organized a workshop at CICECO on how to prepare and submit successful proposals. Details on the upcoming 2025 edition can be found here:
