CICECO marks its presence at the National Forum of Ciência Viva Clubs

CICECO was present at the Alfândega do Porto on April 4th and 5th for the National Forum of the Ciência Viva Clubs at School. The event, aimed at students, teachers, and scientists, featured various activities and demonstrations, with the main goal of sharing knowledge.

The forum is a gathering of members of the Ciência Viva Clubs at School (currently 896 clubs) and their partners, including research institutions, Ciência Viva centres, museums, and non-governmental organizations. In the ground floor of the Alfândega do Porto hosted exhibitions from schools and their partners, who will showcase their projects in this “Science Exhibition. Ciência Viva highlights that the initiative is aimed at “the entire educational community: teachers, educators, students of all ages, levels and types of education, guardians, families, and other educational actors,” and that this will be “a unique opportunity to expand and strengthen working networks and partnerships.

Representing us and its work in CICECO, the researchers Bernardo Tavares, Marinélia Capela and Inês Vilarinho, brought interactive sessions to the younger audience to explore more about some exemples of the research work conducted in CICECO. Friday, April 4, visitors were able to understand more about turning waste into porcelain stoneware (more) and Saturday, April 5, about diamond sensors for firefighter helmets (more).

In addition the event had plenary and parallel sessions. The forum’s opening, on April 4th, featured speeches by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre. Parallel sessions covered topics such as the “plant world,” “the chemistry of stars,” and how “science is good for your health.”
