Nuno Gonçalves, a researcher at the University of Aveiro (UAveiro), has recently won the prestigious Marie Curie Posdoctoral fellowship (MSCA-PF) in the scope of his research project. This fellowship will enable the Researcher to develop disruptive solutions for removing pollutants from water through 3D printed materials. The idea is to help combat water scarcity by creating treatments that allow wastewater to be safely reused.
After a doctorate abroad, under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks, Nuno Gonçalves once again wins a Marie Curie Fellowship. The researcher explains that this fellowship, which aims to promote excellence in research, will allow him to "develop disruptive solutions for the removal of emerging pollutants from water through 3D printed photoactive materials."
The growing scarcity of water was the motto for Nuno Gonçalves' project, which intends to contribute to combat this problem "through the creation of new competitive treatments" that will allow "the reuse of wastewater safely" while reducing "the release of emerging pollutants into the environment," said the researcher.
Nuno Gonçalves says that the MSCA-PF aims to strengthen the "innovative potential of doctoral researchers who want to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility." About winning this fellowship, the researcher says that it will also translate into his growth as a researcher at the University.
This project is being developed at the Department of Chemistryand the Aveiro Institute of Materials - CICECO in the research group of Tito Trindade in collaboration with Rui Novais, professor at the Department of Materials and Ceramics Engineering. This is a project that includes other higher education institutions, since it has collaborations with Vítor Vilar, from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Begoña Ferraria, from Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas of Madrid.
