Under the Women TechEU call, Mara Freire, co-founder and CEO of the spin-off RYA-Purification Technologies (RYAPURTECH), and researcher at CICECO, Department of Chemistry of Universidade de Aveiro (UAveiro), was one of the first 40 women selected to benefit from financial support and mentoring from a pool of 820 applications.
Women TechEU is a project funded by the European Union which, over two years and through 4 calls, aims to support a total of 160 women who lead deep tech startups in Europe, giving them more opportunities and resources to thrive.
Each beneficiary receives financial support worth 75,000 euros, as well as a personalized business development program that includes mentoring, coaching and specific training, among other options.
Women TechEU's mission is therefore to create a more gender-balanced entrepreneurship ecosystem, as diversity drives innovation and the growth and sustainability of companies.
Mara Freire, applied with RYAPURTECH, a UAveiro spin-off, whose mission is to develop a portfolio of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) therapies to combat antimicrobial resistance, one of the most critical challenges today. Without innovative solutions, it is predicted that by 2050 antimicrobial resistance will be responsible for 10 million deaths a year. With the funding obtained, the Ymmune project will be implemented, providing the conditions to continue pre-clinical trials and boost the development of RYAPURTECH, while promoting female leadership in the deep tech sector in Europe.
