Andreia Sousa reflects on gender in humankind's history and life of Marie Curie

In 2025, Ciência Viva highlighted more than a dozen women scientists in Portugal whose work was relevant and innovative in their respective fields.

Three scientists from CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials were featured, and we got to know them better. Andreia Sousa is a principal researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials.

Her words in "Mulheres Cientistas" by Ciência Viva are:

"Possibly, for the same reasons that drive a painter to paint! A painter masters the technique of painting, but above all, they are a creative individual, constantly seeking to be disruptive. Similarly, I see myself as someone who strives to develop new polymers based on solid knowledge, finding immense joy—almost a childlike delight—in creating, envisioning, and exploring new paths to make them more sustainable in the future!"

Let’s hear what she has to say about women in science, here.
