Andrei Salak research highlighted by the company Anton Paar

The company that produces premium instruments for measurement and analysis has published the results of a study developed by Andrei Salak, researcher at CICECO and the Department of Materials and Ceramics Engineering (DEMaC) at the University of Aveiro, in the company Application Report bulletin aimed at potential customers.

Anton Paar GmbH develops, manufactures and distributes high precision laboratory and process measurement systems, including the high-temperature and low-temperature sample stages for in-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Andrei Salak used a high temperature chamber from the company Anton Paar to study the phase transitions in multiferroic materials of the perovskite type in applications related to magnetism, photovoltaic energy, among others. This phenomenon, referred to as polymorphic conversion, is considered as a promising extension of high pressure synthesis that can be used to obtain new materials with combinations of unique properties.

The systematic study of this phenomenon was carried out in close collaboration with the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source of the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK) and the Element Six Global Innovation Centre, a member of the De Beers Group of Companies (UK).

Andrei Salak is an invited researcher at CICECO and DEMaC. He has specialized in the determination and characterization of crystal structure and physical properties of inorganic solids. He is the co-author of more than 100 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 1100 citations and 1 patent. It has more than 30 records in the International Center for Diffraction Data - ICDD Database. Currently, Andrei Salak is the lead coordinator of the 'Tuneable multiferroics based on oxygen octahedral structures' project (TUMOCS, 2015-2018), funded by European Union's Horizon 2020 MSCA-RISE Program.
