Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship awarded to Gabriel Constantinescu

Gabriel Constantinescu, a researcher at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering (DEMaC) and the Associate Laboratory CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, has received the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Widening Individual Fellowship (H2020-WF-02-2019) for TEOsINTE project, challenging new composite concepts for oxide thermoelectrics.

Thermoelectrics are particularly interesting for waste heat harvesting, providing opportunities to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions. Oxide materials represent cheap and much less toxic alternative to traditional intermetallic thermoelectrics. Although the composite materials are involved in an extremely wide range of applications, the development of inorganic thermoelectric composites is still in its infancy. TEOsINTE seeks to explore the controlled interactions between the components in oxide composites as a tool towards enhanced thermoelectric performance. The project has started on October 1, 2020, under supervision of Dr. Andrei Kovalevsky, and intends to complete the whole chain from materials development to prototype testing, while giving particular attention to the smooth integration of the researcher to the CICECO team.
