Structural and Magnetic Properties of ZnO:(Mn, Co) Nanoparticles

abstract

The present study reports the structural and magnetic properties of ZnO:(Mn, Co) nanoparticles synthesized by means of a sol–gel oxalate precursor decomposition method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) profiles confirmed the wurtzite phase structures of nanoparticles. The photoluminescence studies showed both suppression and shift in the emission peak with a change of dopants concentration. In order to verify the lattice site occupancy of Mn and Co ions in ZnO lattice, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectral measurements were carried out. Vibrating sample magnetometer measurements revealed ferromagnetism at room temperature; the remanence and coercivity values were enhanced with an increase of Co concentration in co-doped samples.
