Effect of Ca/P ratio of precursors on the formation of different calcium apatitic ceramics - An X-ray diffraction study

abstract

Biphasic ceramic mixtures of different hydroxyapatite and beta-tricalciumphosphate (beta-TCP) ratios and single phase beta-TCP were prepared by a wet chemical process by adjusting the initial Ca/P ratios of the precursors under constant pH and temperature conditions. Increasing calcium deficiency led to a gradual increase in beta-TCP content of the mixtures. (c) 2005 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
