Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of (001)-oriented (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 single crystals with 0.1 <= x <= 0.4

abstract

Temperature and compositional dependences of the piezoelectric coefficient d(33) and dielectric permittivity epsilon(sigma)(33) for (001)-oriented (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-xPbTiO(3) flux-grown single crystals have been studied in the wide compositional range (0.10 <= x <= 0.40). The effect of multiple configurations of the 71 degrees (109 degrees) domains existing in the ferroelectric 3m phase on the apparent values of d(33) and epsilon(sigma)(33) for composition x = 0.33 close to the morphotropic phase boundary is considered. The results obtained enable one to better define the compositional dependence d(33)(x) and to interpret inconsistencies in d(33) values reported in the literature. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd.
